The entertainment industry has been revolutionized with the use of the computer. There are several methods of entertainment that are provided through the computer. Music files can be stored on the computer and can be used to playback the music when you are in the mood to listen to them. You will also be able to store various movies on your computer and watch them when you are free.

Entertainment on the move is provided by the computers too. As the computer is becoming smaller and smaller with much more functions possible, you are able to carry it along with you in your backpack. So, you will be able to use it to listen to songs and also to watch videos when you are traveling.

Video games have also become very popular as there are many interactive games available on the internet. You will be able to play the game not only against the computer, but you will be able to play with your friends who are thousands of miles away. This is possible because of the internet.

Computer is also used as a medium through which you will be able to interact with millions of other people all over the world. The social networking through sites like Facebook and Twitter has changed the way we live. Millions of people use these social networking sites for meeting new people and friends. This is a method that is used by many people to entertain themselves. All these are possible because of using the computer.

An ISP or Internet Service Provider is a company that sells you broadband service. ISP give end users access to the Internet. Different ISPs have different services. It varies from service provider to service provider. Broadband service providers might provide end users modem, microfilters, and the necessary drivers to install software that gives users access to the Internet.
Three categories of broadband service providers emerge.

ASDL – ASDL is also expanded as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. It is a type of Digital Subscriber Line technology that gives you Internet access over phone lines.

Cable – Unlike ASDL, Cable broadband uses twisted co-axial copper cables to deliver data to Internet users. A cable start at a CMTS (Cable modem termination system), and ends at it. The CMTS regulates the upstream and downstream data flowing from and to the modem.

Satellite broadband – Satellite broadband is Internet delivery using satellites. Satellites beam Internet data to antennas of end users or to a nearby tower station. Satellite has not been favorable on account of expensive set up costs and performance problems.

Now, you need to choose the type of broadband service you want. Do you want a satellite internet or a simple DSL connection? Do you want an ASDL connection that makes use of phone lines? You cannot expect great speeds over phone lines. Or do you want to go for cable connections? This is a popular way of Internet access and is widely accepted. The third is satellite based Internet service. You should go for this only if you live in an area where there are no phone lines, and no feasibility for laying a cable Internet service.

The keyboard is the best assistant for any person who wishes to become an expert in computers. The keyboard is the oldest way of inputting data into the computer. The mouse entered the picture only after graphical user interfaces became popular. Earlier, each and every minor command had to be typed in detail.

Needless to say, this was a cumbersome task which many programmers and computer users tried to improve upon. This is the reason why keyboard shortcuts were created where pressing the keys in a specific pattern led to the computer assuming that a particular command had to be executed. Combining Ctrl and C on your computer is enough to make the system understand that you want a particular file or particular content on the screen to be copied into the clipboard.

Why is it advisable to know and remember keyboard shortcuts? For starters, you can improve your working speed drastically by resorting to keyboard shortcuts. Pressing the Windows button followed by E, pressing the left button once and the down button twice will automatically take you to the 3rd drive on your computer. When you press Windows +E, the Windows explorer opens. The C drive folder tree is minimized when you press the left button. The screen shifts to the 3rd drive when you press the down button twice. Try doing this and try comparing the process with the time taken to activate the Windows explorer and moving to the E. drive using the mouse.

You will notice that it is virtually impossible to replicate the speed offered by a keyboard shortcut. Remembering these keys is not difficult provided you incorporate it into your daily usage. If you use these shortcuts again and again, you will automatically remember it even when you are working under high pressure. Use keyboard shortcut smartly and you will always get compliments at their speed as your hands move over the keyboard. Handling the keyboard is no different than handling of musical instrument. It is just a question of practice.

There was a time a screen savers were essential to enhance the life of the monitor. If screen savers were not used, the same image would be shown on the monitor for a very long time at a stretch. With passage of time, the single image would be burned on the screen of the monitor and using the device for viewing other images would become difficult.

Well, this was a long time ago and screen servers are no longer an essential requirement. You can have the same image on the screen for many hundreds of hours at a stretch and there would be no adverse impact on the device. Once this is done, you just have to activate the shortcut and the screen saver would be activated on your screen immediately.

This is a particularly smart option if you have used screen saver making programs to create a screen saver of your family members or your last vacation. Or, you can go along with the standard screen saver files installed in your system when the operating system is installed.

Modifying Windows 7 – Not As Many Options As In Open Source OS

Makers of computer operating systems can learn a lot from the way the human body is designed. Each and every person has the all the essential organs including the brain working as the central processing unit. How the individual wishes to use his or her assets is a matter of choice.

Open source operating systems rank very high in this regard. With sufficient knowledge and technical expertise, you can use the source code to come up with your own operating system with own minor and major specifications. However, that is not how Windows operating system works.

Windows comes with a predetermined set of options and preferences. Just take the shutdown menu in Windows 7 as an example. The default button is directed towards system shutdown and can make use of additional options given in the drop down menu as and when you require. If you want to restart your computer, you will have to press Start, go to the Shutdown option, go to the drop down menu and choose the restart option before pressing OK.

Needless to say, this can be a very frustrating task for a person who restarts the computer very often. Well, you can make use of the Start Menu Properties by right clicking the Start Menu and can make the necessary changes to your preferences. If you want, you can even set up hibernate is the default option.

Open source operating systems offer the ability to make numerous modifications. If you do not want the shutdown menu at all, you have the option of removing it from your start menu and adding it as a link on your desktop. The flip side is that there is virtually no standardization and you can end up with as many operating systems as there are computer users on the planet. Online bingo sites, Facebook games, Wikipedia–all of it seems pretty harmless, but might it lead to something more for our children in this day and age of convolution toward the rise of technology? It seems like the sky isn’t even the limit. They can now reach as high as the universe all on their own. Just logging in, a couple searches on Google, and they’re linked to the world, and it’s so easy! Decades ago, all children did was play with boxes and paper. Nowadays, they’re chatting on Java applets and learning how to create bottle rockets all on their own. Should we be worried?

On the one hand, better technology does mean better security. Our kids can be better protected all because of technology. Even as they surf the web and are open to a lot more danger in the world, the ability to monitor and survey online for possible predators is plenty easier than if they were walking down the alley after school, approaching a man carrying candy. However, how would you feel about chip implantation in your child’s body to better monitor location? Might make them seem like ‘products’ or something.

That ultimately brings out the rather uneasy feeling that someday soon children will have the necessary knowledge to accomplish their own computer hacks. With enough knowledge and skill in learning, the world might have little Neos from “The Matrix” running around, taking over everything, and at these young, tender ages, learning is intensified. Technology from a certain standpoint can act like a loaded gun. Could that be our future?

There will be no way to predict. Appropriate technology is something to be experienced and experimented on to see if it will be a hindrance or a help to the betterment of humanity. The major point to keep in mind is this: humans are not technological beings. So let us keep technology as a tool and not a replacement.

There is nothing more frustrating than having to wait for your Internet browser on your high speed Internet to load. Before you throw your computer or go out to purchase a new, faster computer. There are several things you need to understand about why your Internet speed is so slow.

Your Internet service provider, ISP, number is the faster your Internet speed can go. It is unrealistic for the Internet speed to always perform fast. Some fluctuation occurs resulting in various speeds throughout various times of the day.

There will be certain times where the Internet will seem extremely slow. This may not be because your ISP or your computer is slow, but because so many people are using the service at the same time. The slowest times are during the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. work times when people are hard at work and during dinner when most families sit down together for a meal. There is not much ISP can do about these peak hours other than making their Internet faster.

If your Internet speed is slow during the down times when people are at work, the problem may not be the ISP but your computer. It is possible that other hardware and software on your computer is slowing down the Internet’s performance. If you can uninstall the program or hardware without affecting your computer, it may be wise to do just that. If you do not have to have the hardware or software running while you are on the Internet, turn it off so that your Internet can perform faster. If you are still having trouble with your Internet speed, it is time to run a speed test program often available on the Internet.

This includes Windows updates and protection against spyware. Change the settings by clicking Run and type in gpedit.msc. Find Computer Configuration, expand the Administrative Templates, click Network, and click the tab labeled QoS Packet Scheduler. Enable Limit Reservable Bandwidth, change the bandwidth to 0%, and click apply. Restart when finished making changes.
